American Girls about Town
Assortment of authors
Downtown, Oct 2004, $13.00, 384 pp.
ISBN: 0743496957

This seventeen collection chick lit anthology centers on women seeking, needing or running away from relationships. The tales run the gamut of moods with some using humor to focus on the gender wars while others contain a serious timber to male-female encounters. Each contribution is well written whether they are state-side, in England or even in Viet Nam. The threads throughout is the lead female characters are Americans either running towards or away from love. This solid chick lit short story book is fun to follow for sub-genre fans due to the for the most part strong lead heroines, though in many ways similar to one another in outlook (whether advancing or retreating) struggling with everyday life’s curveballs tossed by men. Sub-genre fans will want to try other collections in the “Girls about Town” series starring Scottish and Irish lasses.
