Review

For any reader who enjoys history coming alive in tales told by one of the characters. Boudicca is an Iceni princess whose land has been conquered by Rome and now must live under rules made by those conquerors. Any rebellion is punishable by death. So does Boudicca tell us of one such event that changed her life. Boudicca tells us about Tallas, her betrothed and her father, the Iceni king, who also suffered the consquences of what Tallas did. Tallas led a rebellion against Roman occupation of Iceni lands and was captured. Boudicca's story shows how the deeds of one person can set in motion a series of events that will affect generations to come. A tragedy that Skakespeare would have been proud to claim as his own, Boudicca shares with the reader all the emotions the human heart can experience. In a time of change when tribes were being overwhelmed by the Roman might, a person's life was no longer their own. And so it is with Boudicca. Heart-warming and heart-rending, Boudicca carries the reader through events that overshadow her girlhood and mar her womanhood, from innocent girl to warrior queen. An exciting tale with characters you will love and villains you will love to hate. A trip back through time well worth taking. Recommended for reading enjoyment of something different.
