"And the earth shall give up its dead"--an event that will take place at the end of the world. For young Dawn Emmanuel the end came way too early. Then the earth did open and give her up. Into the hands of police detectives Adam Templeton and his partner, Joe. So begins the hunt for a killer that takes Adam and Joe into the world of a personality cult that uses brainwashing and threats to control its members. They become aware of the cult's power and the fear such groups engender as their questions go unanswered and they are forced to look outside the cult for the reason for Dawn's murder. As the Pine County police traverse Florida, backtracking Dawn's life and that of her killer, they learn how a cult can develop from the idea of one person. And more questions than answers are raised. This is a good book for those times the reader wants to just stay inside a warm room and read, a time to relax and follow two able detectives going about their work. Talented author David Chacko has written a well-constructed story that will keep the reader turning the pges, wanting to know what comes next. A Long Way to Eden comes recommended as a pleasant fun read for any mystery lover.
