A romance that will keep you reading. Well written and set against the background of Victorian London society, any reader will find this book full of intrigue and echoes of the past. A very satisfying read. Lord Anthony Nelthorpe has returned from the wars, wounded and sore of spirit. In his efforts to rebuild his life, he realizes the past isn't something he's proud of, especially when he comes face to face with Jenna Fairchild, a woman he once courted. She remembers only too well his attempted seduction in order to force a marriage between them, memories that keep the past very much alive. In spite of her feelings toward him, events force them together and a tentative friendship forms when Lord Nelthorpe rescues Jenna. Author Julia Justiss has used her considerable talent to give the reader a look into London society and the experiences of two people who must find a place for themselves in spite of conniving relatives and acquaintances. This is one of those rare books it pays to take your time to read instead of rushing through. Realistic charactes and high emotional appeal will keep you reading, waiting to see what happens next.
