Considering becoming a foster parent? Before you do, this is one book you should read. Someplace Like Home deals with the abuse of children in all its awfulness. Though it is fiction, it is based upon reality and speaks to all who have compassion in their heart for the young. Julian is a Hispanic child suffering terrible physical punishment at the hands of his male relatives. Unwanted, he winds up in the foster care system and finally, comes to stay with Frank and Veronica Scott. Their relationship gets off to a rocky start, but as time passes a bond between foster parents and the boy forms. But the tenuous tie is tested time and time again as events seem opposed to Julian finding any lasting happiness. Talented author Terrence Moore displays compassion and sure knowledge of the human heart in the writing of this tale, peopled with characters you could meet on any street in any town. A read that will keep you reading to see what happens next. Highly recommended.
