Review

Daniel and his sister Rachel were never made aware of their true destinies until the time came for them to be fulfilled. As children of the late, disgraced regent Emerson, the siblings were revealed through prophecy to be the Chosen Ones, charged with freeing their home planet Thracia from the tyrannical Harridan regime.

The Harridans, a barbaric and technologically advanced race, are unable to die and believe the answer to this dilemma lies within a sacred object in Daniel's possession. To obtain this object, they impose upon Thracia the threat of a weapon powerful enough to obliterate the planet. Daniel and Rachel must oversee the Harridans' demise and release them into the spirit world before their own people are sent there first.

Battle Cry is an ambitious fantasy tale, though marred slightly by punctuation errors and line editing. Nevertheless, author Finkelstein shows a talent for worldbuilding and creating strong female characters (in Rachel as well as the Magi who captures Daniel's heart), traits that with improved structure will provide for fascinating fantasy reads to come.
