Review Hannibal Jones is a professional problem solver, a hybrid of The Equalizer and Shaft who is as adept at rescuing damsels in distress as he is susceptible to the charms of other women in his life - namely his mother and lady love, Cindy. When Mother Washington brings home an hysterical Bea Collins in hopes that her son will find her missing fiance, Hannibal, however, is reluctant to take the case. Missing fiances mean only one thing in his book - cold feet - and Hannibal would rather focus on something else instead of digging up evidence that would only break the poor girl's heart.
That should have been the last word, yet Hannibal is coaxed into the case, and as with any case he dives headfirst into serious investigation. When he does finally track down the elusive Dean Edwards, Hannibal is quick to discover that he has delved into something more than a simple case of a jittery would-be bridegroom. Secrets of a haunted past and years of deception threaten to unravel when Edwards is implicated in the murder of a co-worker, sending Hannibal jetting from the DC Metro area to Vegas and Germany to gather the scattered pieces of the puzzle necessary to clear the young man's name.
The second such novel featuring Hannibal Jones, Collateral Damage is a well-plotted tale where not everything is what it seems, and when the truth comes to light the reader is certain to be satisfied. Author Camacho creates in Jones a likeable protagonist, tough and tender, particularly in a side plot involving a charge rescued from her abusive spouse. Fans of suspense will want to call on Jones.
