An excitingly romantic tale set in southern Louisiana near New Orleans guaranteed to keep you reading. More than a romance, this story falls well into the suspense and mystery category as well and will satisfy readers who love a good mystery. Justine Damaris is trying to keep the Damaris Detective Agency afloat after the abrupt disappearance of her father. Then she learns he owes a huge gambling debt to the local villain Tito Benes. Under dire threats from Benes, she takes the first job that offers itself to settle her father's horrible debt and wishes with her broken heart that she didn't have to accept it since it comes from the man she though cared about her and didn't. Reed Burkett hired Justine a second time to discover the identity of the boy his dead ex-girlfriend had left him with. She'd said the boy was his son, but a DNA test proved otherwise. One person he knew could do the job quietly was Justine. It would give him the opportunity to prove he did care after all. More than a romance, this is a tale of compassion for a little boy who can't or won't talk and the efforts to win his trust. Each page you turn deepens the mystery of his identity, Justine's missing father, and who is behind the suspicious death of Dixie Dupree. Highly recommended for any reader who enjoys variety and tales with well-written subplots involving intriguing characters whose motives drive the story. A fun read. Enjoy.
