A last-minute reprieve in the form of a plea for help from an old friend saves Holt McKettrick from marrying a woman he doesn't really love and sends him hurrying back to Texas. One friend is about to hang for murder and another is about to lose his ranch--will he be in time to save both of them? Lorelei Fellows defies her father and refuses to marry the man he'd chosen for her when she caught that man in bed with the maid. Instead, she burns her wedding dress in public and nearly becomes part of the fire. Holt McKettrick bring change to the area by interferring with the crooked plans of a man named Templeton and drawing hiw wrath upon himself. Lorelei leaves home to move onto a decrepit old ranch she inherited, thereby setting herself at odds with her father and Templeton.
McKettrick's Choice is a complex tale with cleverly-written subplots that provide plenty of action, suspense and romance, a well-told tale that will keep you turning pages, wanting to know what comes next. Talented Linda Lael Miller has recreated the old west intact and peopled it with characters you'll feel you already know. Read this book and you'll be looking for others by this author who brings the old west alive. Highly recommended for any reader who loves adventure and romance blended with villainy of the old-fashioned type. Enjoy. I sure did.
